I wanted to share a huge thing for myself personally, all those with non sleeping babies will understand. With those with "unicorn" babies will understand a part of it from the first time your newborn slept through the night. For the first time in 19 months (well 19 months tomorrow) my little guy slept through the night. OMG this was huge for me, like massive huge.
This is when you start rushing through your mind of everything you had done the night before, the day before what was different? What can you recreate to have another all night of sleep? A friend of mine suggested some warm milk right before bed, he doesn't drink milk but I offered chocolate milk which he will sometimes drink. Of course he didn't want any, boo I had thought. As per my last blog I had been putting some oils on his feet to help him sleep. To me with great success, he had been waking up more constantly half the number of times and usually I could get him right back to sleep. Of course constantly doesn't mean every night, we still had bad nights here and there but way better than every night. All you non sleeping moms understand that!!
My little guy has a bit of a cold so I had made a concoction of oils from my Home Essentials kit. I just got my kit about a week ago and still experimenting. I had put some on earlier in the day which I noticed his nose was less runny and he ended up having an almost 3 hour nap. At bedtime I again slathered him up, on his chest, back and feet with this concoction hoping it would help his cold. My older son had gotten up to pee in the middle of the night, my husband asks me if our little one was in our bed. He comes to sleep with us a lot so I can get some sleep. I said nope he is still in his bed. My big guy woke up once more for I don't remember why and I got him back to sleep and noticed his baby brother still sleeping. Cool I thought he usually wakes up at least once by now. I go back to sleep. My eye open and I look at the clock 7am. WHAT!!!!!!!!!!! what happened? humm maybe I didn't hear my little one and my husband got up with him and put him back to sleep. So of course I wake him up as you all know that panic feeling the first time a child sleep through the night.... are they still alive... did my partner wake up with them? So I poke my husband, "honey, honey, did you check on the boys before you came to bed last night?" Yes of course he did, he always does like I do. (side note we are on separate schedules due to his crazy work schedule.) I ask him he our little guy got up with him, he says no. Then he asks why. I said he didn't get up last night. Then he asks didn't he sleep with us? NO he didn't. Then we have the conversation all parents of kids have the first time your child sleeps through the night. Is he okay, how well did you check on him, panic sets in for both of us. My hubby asks, is this really the first time, YES!! he had never ever slept through the entire night, ever! So of course comes the do I check on him and risk waking him up? You all know this dilemma, well of course I have to check if he is still alive. He does have a cold and who knows panic. So I creep over to the boys room. Peek inside, lucky the door was open a bit. I thought I had heard him before I got to the room. I peek in and he is sitting up him his bed as he had just woke up. OMG he is alive and just woke up. I creep back to my room, crawl into bed for what I know will be only a few minutes. I tell him husband and we marvel at the fact he slept the whole night for the first time. Then he precedes to ask me what all parents ask themselves. What did we do, he says what ever you did, what ever oils you used do it again! lol
So tonight my son will be slathered again in my cold concoction, hoping for a second all nighter of sleep. On another side note, my husband is very happy I got those oils and so am I.
