So with the new year looming I need to get back into the habit of not only looking after myself but trying to lose that baby weight that just won't go. Okay when I say baby weight well came on with baby and didn't leave after birth 3 years ago.
I'm writing this post for 2 reasons. One is I'm sure I'm not alone and two I'm hoping this will get me to run after and hope back on that wagon. I totally fell of the self care wagon. Well fell off and rolled away as the wagon drove off at full speed.
I was interviewed by Emma Rohmann from Green At Home for Eco Parent magazine. I was asked about some of the basic uses of essential oils and of course as always I talked about how to use them safely as well.
Oh my goodness!!! Why oh why do I still get surprised by the power of essential oils. After almost 2 years of using them for my families health and wellness not to mention cleaning my house I can still get caught off guard when I try something new with them and find out how well they work
I'm doing a blog seriers on answering some of your top questions when it comes to essential oils. I thought this would be fun and a great way to get information out to you that you want to hear. I'll be doing a few of these blogs so please feel free to send me your questions via email, fb message, comment on my fb post about the blog or even comment on here. So here we go.
Over my time working with and teaching about essential oils I have come across a lot of unsafe usage when it comes to using essential oils in the bath tub!! Not only in person while chatting with people but also seeing what people write on-line.
In case you have not heard air fresheners and even those smelly candles are actually really bad for you. Rain, spring, flowers and mountain air may be smells you have learned to associate with fresh and clean but they do not clean the air and they can hurt you and your family. They include an array of hazardous substances which may cause lung damage and tumors, interfere with our hormones and cause such lifelong problems as asthma. Yes you read that right... scary!!
Continuation of my series, if you have not read part one I would suggest you go back and take a look at part 1.
The following is some information on the oils mentioned above
WOW I can't believe it is back to school time already. Tomorrow is the big day for us, getting prepped with school bags, lunches, snacks oh and don't forget the first day photo op. The other things we do in our house is preventing the back to school germs.
Most essential oils users know that peppermint is good for headaches and lavender is good for relaxing. So here is some information on some less known oils and popular ones that you didn't know that oil did that.
Doing laundry last night and the lovely smell of the calming blend called Serenity that I used in my dryer I had to blog it. First a little background and education:
I can't really tell you why I love this oil so much, I just do. I love the smell of it and it brings me a sense of calm and rest. That is why I added it to my stress relief roller bottle and my bed linen spray. I spray it on my pillow and I can smell the arbovitae in the undertones and I just hug my pillow and drift off into peaceful sleep. Now enough about me and my love of this oil and more about this oil.
Here we go again, my husband accidentally deleted my first draft so let's hope I can do this again..
Lavender is a smell you love or hate. there are not too many people in the middle grey zone. Although I should state that most people who dislike the smell of lavender are smelling the synthetic version of it.
You don't have to use harsh or toxic chemicals to get a clean sink or tub. Not only are these ingredients healthier for you to use but much more cost effective too. Better for the environment, health and wallet. All you need is some baking soda, essential oils and a touch of water.
Again wanted to share a great blog from my friend at Rebel Essential and all about her "why did I do that again?" moments and some hacks with peppermint essential oil.
I have read 2 great articles this week which not only really resonated with me but I feel like everyone should read them. So I thought I would do a blog about my experience and a chance to share these 2 other articles.
How I use Tea Tree Essential Oil in my House
Everyone I talk to about Tea Tress essential oil know I am no fan of the smell. That came about from when I was a teen trying to use not very good stinky probably not even pure Tea Tree on my skin. Now that I'm a bit older and wiser I'm not only using 100% pure Tea Tree but very high quality which in turn not only works better but the side therapeutic benefits too.
Today I have my very good friend and excellent writer blogger of essential oils Kate of Rebel Essential. She wrote a blog that I would like to share with you on her love of Citrus Bliss which a great and important warning at the end of the blog.
“Why does it smell like creamsicles in here!?!?”
This is a common question around these parts as we are quite fond of diffusing doTERRA’s Citrus Bliss oil blend. It does, quite exactly, smell like a creamsicle!
What is better then making a gift for someone that you made or perhaps a gift for yourself? Making your own bath salts is not only super easy but makes a nice gift which you can make as plain or fancy as you like.
I love making this foaming hand soap, not only is it super easy and takes about 3 minutes to make but using all natural ingredients means much safer for your family. You can add any essential oils you like, citrus are okay since you are rinsing them off with the soap enough to not to cause photo-sensitivity. I like to use a protective blend for obvious reasons and lemons since I have dirty greasy little boys playing in the dirt. Sometimes I will make one with a pretty smell such as lavender or ylang ylang for our bathroom upstairs to use before bedtime. You can use 2 tbsp or 3 tbsp of the castile soap depending on how soapy you like it. You can purchase foaming hand pumps here or reuse old ones. The first time I made this I was so proud of myself but it was also so easy, when my husband used it he thought I bought it since it was so good. I take that as a big compliment.
How to make your own foaming hand soap.
Here is my first time making reusable eco-friendly cleaning wipes. It was actually really easy and the wipes are working great. I take one out of the jar wring it then clean as I would with the throw aways. I then rinse the cloth and throw it in my kitchen hamper. Better for the environment and cheaper then buying the throw aways win - win is what I call that.
My husband loved those wipes from the store as they are so easy to grab so I had to come up with an alternative as I wanted to get those nasty expensive wipes out of my house. The first time I made them my husband used them to clean the kitchen. He was extremely impressed as they didn't even leave any streaks on our stainless steal like the store bought ones did. I should add don't put more baking soda as that will leave streaks!! I accidentally didn't measure once and a pile fell in, I thought meh - NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO not meh!!! White streaks everywhere, I learned my lesson. I know use a proper measuring spoon. Other then that they work
Get your jar either new or used and some rags which again you can purchase or you can use old shirts.
Okay so this will be my second blog on making this all natural general purpose spray cleaner. Yep that is how much I love it that I feel the need to write another blog and share my love of this easy to make product. Not only easy but using all natural ingredients means my kids can help me make it and help clean with it without me worrying if they get some on their skin or accidentally spray themselves in the face. Yep this happened, if it was a harsh chemical / toxic spray cleaner from the store I would have freaked out but my little guy just shock his head and continued on his way. So lets get to it.
Get your spray bottle, either new or used
Here is how to make your own all natural streak free window cleaner. Very easy and very fast to make. You all know I love my essential oils so many great uses!!
This is so fast, easy and much less expensive then any toxic glass cleaner you get at the store. This has been working great on my windows and glass, really no streaks and I don't have to worry about my kids helping me clean with it!
